서울대교구 소속 가톨릭 신부로서 실천신학의 한 분야인 교리 교육 신학을 전공하였다. 현대 예비 신자 교리 교육에 있어 '신비 교육'의 실천적 방향을 모색하기 위해 초세기 교회(2~4세기) 교부들의 예비 신자 교리 교육의 실천들, 특히 신비 교육 기간에 행한 교육을 분석하여 주요한 교리 교육적 원리와 요소들을 도출하였고 이를 로만 쟈콥슨의 커뮤니케이션 이론을 바탕으로 실천적 프로그램을 제안하여 가톨릭대학교 성신교정에서 2023년 실천신학 박사학위를 받았다. 중점 연구 분야는 가톨릭으로 입교를 준비하는 예비 신자들을 위한 교리 교육과 이들을 위한 교리 교사 양성, 교구와 본당 단위의 교리반과 교리교사회 운영과 관련된 연구이다. 현재 교리 교육학, 가톨릭 신앙 교육론, 가톨릭 교리 교리서 해설 등의 강좌를 운영하고 있다.  아울러 한국 가톨릭의 핵심적인 협의체인 주교회의 산하 교리 교육 위원회의 총무로 활동하고 있다. 

Catholic priest belonging to the Archdiocese of Seoul. Majored in catechetical theology, a field of practical theology. In order to find a practical direction for ‘Mystagogy’ in modern catechesis of catechumens, he analyzed the practices of catechesis of catechumens by the church fathers of the early catholic church(2nd to 4th centuries). By analyzing the church fathers’ practices of catechumenate, especially those conducted during the period of ‘Mystagoia’, major catechetical principles and elements were derived. By analyzing this based on Roman Jacobson’s communication theory, he proposed a practical program for modern ‘Mystagogy’, and received a doctorate in practical theology from the Catholic University of Korea in 2023. The main research areas include catechesis for catechumens preparing to become Catholics, training of catechists for them, and research related to the operation of catechumenate and catechists’ associations at the diocese and parish level. Currently, he is running courses on Catechesis, Studies on catholic faith education, and Commentary on the Catholic Catechism, etc. In addition, he serves as the secretary of the Committee of Catechesis under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

저는 가톨릭대학교 사회복지학과 조교수로 재직 중입니다. 저의 학문적, 직업적 경력은 노화와 노인 분야에 지속적으로 집중되어 왔습니다. 제 연구 관심 분야는 사회적 고립, 삶의 질, 정신 건강, 노인을 위한 의료 서비스 제공에 중점을 두고 있습니다.
저는 한국 가톨릭대학교에서 학사 및 교회법 석사 학위를 취득했습니다. 학사와 석사 학위를 받은 후 가톨릭 사제로서 4년간 지역 본당 두 곳에서 근무했습니다. 본당에서 근무하는 동안 더 나은 서비스를 위해 사회복지에 관심을 가졌습니다. 미국 미네소타주 세인트 토마스 대학교에서 석사 학위를 받았습니다. Catholic Charities의 고령화 및 장애 서비스 기관과 중증 영구 정신질환(SPMI) 환자를 위한 버치우드 케어홈에서 사례관리 인턴으로 근무했습니다. 현장 경험을 바탕으로 현재 버지니아 지부에서 공인 사회복지사 자격을 가지고 있습니다. 졸업 후 버지니아 커먼웰스 대학교 박사 과정에 등록했습니다. 제 논문은 종교성과 회복탄력성이 어떻게 문화적 스트레스와 삶의 질 사이의 관계를 매개하는지에 관한 연구입니다. 저는 2023년 5월에 학위를 취득했습니다. 현재 저는 미국 등의 공동저자들과 연구중이며, 지금까지 6개 이상의 SSCI급 저널에 출판하였습니다. 
저는 자기 돌봄을 중요하게 생각하며 가능한 한 많은 시간을 야외활동으로 보내려고 합니다. 저는 여행, 달리기, 산행을 즐깁니다.

Sunghwan Cho is an assistant professor in the Department of Social Work at the Catholic University of Korea. His academic and professional careers have consistently focused on the field of aging and older adults. His research interests focus on social isolation, quality of life, mental health, and the delivery of healthcare services for older adults.
Sunghwan earned his Bachelor and Master of Canon Law from the Catholic University of Korea. After receiving his B.A and M.A, he served two local parishes for four years as a Catholic priest. While serving the parishes, he had interested in social work for better services. He earned his Master of Social Work at University of St. Thomas, MN in the United States. He completed his internship at Catholic Charities Aging & Disability services and Birchwood Care Home for people with SPMI (Serious Permanent Mental Illness) as a case manager intern. Based on the field-based experience, currently he is a licensed social worker at Virginia Chapter. After graduation, he enrolled at the Virginia Commonwealth University Ph.D program. His dissertation centered on the how religiosity and resilience mediate the relationship between acculturative stress and quality of life. He earned the degree in May 2023. He is conducting international collaborative research with the United States, and have published more than 6 papers in SSCI journals. 

구약 성경의 역사서에 대해 본문 비평과 원문 분석 중심의 연구를 하고 있다. 2014년 1월 로마 성서대학에서 "L'aspetto fedele di Davide in 2Sam 16,5,13"라는 논문으로 성서학 석사(S.S.L)를 취득하였으며, 2023년 8월 "사울과 사울 가족의 죽음을 통해 본 다윗 왕위의 정당성 연구: 1사무 31장과 2사무 1장, 4장의 본문 분석을 중심으로"라는 논문으로 박사 학위(Th.D)를 받았다. 가톨릭대학교 성신교정 신학과에서 "구약성경 입문"과 "영지주의와 성서" 강의를 하고 있으며, 복음적 가치에 뿌리를 둔 교육적 도움을 주기 위해 겸임으로써 학부대학에서도 교양 과목 강의를 하고 있다. 2024년 1학기, '삶의 고통과 그 의미에 대하여'라는 교양 중핵 과목을 개설하였다. 

가톨릭 교회의 사제로서 가톨릭대학교의 시대적 역할을 고민하며, 복음의 정신을 교육 현장에서 현실화하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 

My research focuses on the historical books of the Old Testament, with a method of textual criticism and textual analysis. I received License of Science in Biblical Studies (S.S.L.) from 'Ponificio Istituto Biblico' in January 2014 with the thesis "L'aspetto fedele di Davide in 2Sam 16,5,13". And I achieved Doctor of Theology degree (Th.D.) in August, with the thesis "A Study of the Legitimacy of David's Throne through the Narrative about the Death of Saul and Saul's Family: Focusing on the Analysis of 1 Samuel 31, 2 Samuel 1, 2 Sam 4". I also teach "Introduction of the Old Testament" and "Gnosticism and the Bible" in the Department of Theology at the Catholic University of Korea (Songsin). I prelect  "On Suffering and the Meaning of Life" in the first semester of 2024 for cultural subject.

As a priest of the Catholic Church, I consider the contemporary role of Catholic university and strive to make the spirit of the Gospel in educational field for realization.
